Your library stays yours.
The short version: Cairn keeps everything on your device and sends nothing anywhere.
What's stored
The items you save — links, notes, images, tags and spaces — plus which Resurface picks you've handled today. In the web app that lives in your browser's local storage on this computer. Clearing your browser data clears it, so export now and then.
What's sent
Nothing. There's no account, no analytics script and no server copy of your library. The page loads fonts from Google Fonts; that's the only outside request.
The Chrome extension
It reads the title, address and highlighted text of a page only when you click Save, and hands the save to your Cairn tab. Saves wait inside the extension until Cairn is open. It sends nothing to any server.
Agents
If you connect a library folder, Cairn writes your library there as plain files. An agent you set up (Claude, Cursor and others) runs a program from that folder on your computer to search it. What the agent reads goes to that agent’s AI provider, like anything else you show it. Agents can only change things you’ve switched on.
AI features
Ask works by searching your library on your device. If you later connect a model, only the items needed for that one question are sent, to the provider you picked, when you press Ask.
Leaving
Export writes your whole library to a JSON file. Delete the browser data and nothing of yours remains.
