“A good tool disappears while you use it and is still there when you come back.”
Install it in a minute
Until it's listed in the Chrome Web Store, you add it by hand. Chrome calls this "Load unpacked":
- Download the zip above, right-click it and choose Extract All. You'll get a folder called
cairn-extensionwithmanifest.jsoninside it. - Open
chrome://extensionsin a new tab and switch on Developer mode (top right). - Click Load unpacked and choose the
cairn-extensionfolder — the one that hasmanifest.jsondirectly inside it. - Pin Cairn from the puzzle-piece menu so the button is always one click away.
- Open your Cairn library once, so the extension learns your spaces.
What it saves
The page — click the button or press Ctrl+Shift+S. A quote — highlight text first, and the popup offers to save it as a quote with its source. Anything else — right-click a link, an image or a selection and choose "Save to Cairn".
Where it goes
Saves go straight into your library if Cairn is open in a tab. If it isn't, they wait inside the extension — the number on the button shows how many — and move in the next time you open Cairn. Nothing is sent to any server; the extension only talks to your Cairn tab.
Permissions, in plain words
Active tab reads the title, address and highlighted text of the page you're on, only when you click. Context menus adds "Save to Cairn" to right-click. Storage holds saves until Cairn picks them up. Access to cairn.uxasim.com lets it hand saves to your library.
